A quick interview with ... Barbara!

1. Explain a bit about who you are, family, where you’re from, work etc.

My name is Barbara Heaps. I’ve been married to Graham Heaps for 7 and a bit years. We are both retired. I am from Belfast, Northern Ireland but was living in Manchester before I moved here (to Dewsbury).

Both of us were married before, our spouses had died and we both have grown-up children. 

2. How did you become a Christian?

I was brought up in a Christian home by 2 Christian parents and also a large wider Christian family. So I heard the message of the good news about Jesus Christ right from the get-go.

When I was only 8 years old I realised that I was not living as I should have been. My selfishness and bad behaviour was a barrier between me and God. I needed to repent and believe in Jesus - that he died on the cross for my sins because he loved me and wanted me to be his forever. 

3. What difference does being a Christian make to your life everyday?

Being a Christian has meant a lot to me through all of my life since then. I haven’t always lived a perfect life but God has loved me and cared for me (through all the many happy and sad times) and guided me in countless ways throughout my life.

4. If there was one thing you wanted to say to someone who doesn’t know Jesus, but is interested in finding out more, what would it be?

Don’t delay praying to Jesus, thanking him for dying for you, and forgiving your wrongdoing. Accept him as your Lord and Saviour. He will hear you and he loves to save people.

I am so glad I accepted Jesus as my Saviour when I was young. I wouldn’t want to live without him and I know that he loves me and he is in control of all my life (whatever happens) AND he wants me to be with him now and forever in heaven. 

Life is so much richer with Jesus in many ways.
