Explain a bit about who you are, family, where you’re from, work etc.
Hi, my name is Hannah and I live in Wakefield with my husband Richard and 3 children - Sam, Noah and Eva.
How did you become a Christian?
I grew up attending church and always loved to hear stories about Jesus as a small child. But as a teenager I walked away from church and thought I didn’t need faith or any kind of religion to make me happy. I could do it all by myself!
A few years later, I met my best friend, Sian, at university and she tried tirelessly to teach me about Jesus and always invited me to Christian Union events. But sadly, I carried on pushing God away. Sian then introduced me to Richard, as she was going out with Tom, Richard’s brother.
Richard and I knew we wanted to find a church and to come back to God but it took us a good few years to find Grace Church. After a difficult period in my life, I decided to attend a Christianity Explored course that I had seen advertised on the website for GCW while I was browsing for churches to try. I loved the course and it reminded me of everything I had learned about Jesus as a child.
I started to realise that following Jesus was what was missing in my life and after the course I started to go to Grace Church on a Sunday morning with my family. Soon after, Richard and I decided to put our full trust in Jesus Christ and we were baptised.
Baptism showed that we accepted Him as our Saviour; relying on His promises rather than our own selfish need to control our lives and resting in the peace that He forgives us for all our wrongdoings and guides our path every day.
What difference does being a Christian make to your life everyday?
Being a Christian is not about following a set of rules, nor is it about simply going to church on a Sunday. It is a way of life and as you grow as a Christian, you realise how God is changing you, helping you to make better decisions daily, teaching you to live well and to love others.
You learn how to ask him for guidance through prayer and to always seek Him even in the darkest times of your life.
It is also great to be part of a family of believers in Grace Church and we support each other through the trials of life with the Lord’s help.
4. If there was one thing you wanted to say to someone who doesn’t know Jesus, but is interested in finding out more, what would it be?
Come along to a church service to find out more! We have the Bible open and you can discover so much more about who Jesus is and the truths of the Gospel.
