a church for people looking for real hope

Christianity explored

We'd love to invite you to join us for Christianity Explored!

Join us for an hour on Tuesday evenings (using Zoom) for interesting discussions about life, death, everything in between and how the Bible could help you make sense of it all.

Don't worry - it'll be a stress-free scenario with no singing, no praying and no pressure to ask or answer questions. Just come along and give it a go! You might find you have more questions than you think and, even better, that the Bible and the Christian faith has the answers!

Christianity Explored with GCW starts Tuesday 18th May, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on Zoom. To find out more and register your interest, visit our Christianity Explored page or get in touch.

We meet at Jubilee Hall from 10.30am. If you'd like to join us in person, booking is essential so that we can stay Covid-secure. To book, simply email us and we'll reserve your seat/s. You can also join us via Zoom or Facebook Live.

We meet to do the important work of praying at 7.45pm every Wednesday evening. At the moment, we're doing this over Zoom. Get in touch if you'd like to join us.

what else is on?

what else is on?

Due to Covid-19, our church diary is a little less busy than usual. However, we are hoping to run a Christianity Explored course soon.

Find out more about the course and what else is on in our 'What's on?' section

Pastor/church leader

Ian lives close to Jubilee Hall with his wife Lydia and his four children. Ian and Lydia led the team of people who founded GCW and are just as passionate about bringing the Gospel to Wakefield now as they were at the start! You'll often see Ian preaching on Sunday morning and leading our meetings and, if it's your thing, he'd never shy away from a chat about cricket!

Contact Ian

Jamie & Megan

Pastoral assistant and youth leader

Jamie started working for GCW in 2017 and works alongside Ian to help things tick along. Like Ian, you may see Jamie leading some of our meetings and preaching for us. Jamie lives in the centre of Wakefield with his wife Megan - both are two of the church's youth leaders and are also on our worship team - you'll often find them helping lead us in worship to God through song on a Sunday or involved in youth events.

Youth leader and co-ordinator

Steph lives on the outskirts of Wakefield  in Normanton and is one of the church's youth leaders. It's her job to co-ordinate our church's Sunday School which runs on a Sunday for primary school aged children. Steph has a real care for the childeren in the church and is always on hand if you have any questions regarding Sunday School if you can't find the answers you need here on our website.

Meet some of the team

Deacon/church officer

Chris  lives in Wakefield with his wife Chloe and their daughter Isabelle and is one of the church's three deacons. As part of this role, he helps handle all the practical matters that come with running a church. As well as being a deacon, Chris is also on the worship team -  if he's not playing the piano, he's guranteed to be playing around trying to get some tech in order for us!

Deacon/church officer

Matt is also one of the church's deacons and, like Chris and Richard, he's all hands on deck  when it comes to handling  the practical and technical things that help keep our church running as normal. Matt lives in Wakefield and was part of the initial team of people who set out to start a church in Wakefield alongside Ian and Lydia. If you'd like to hear a little of our church's history, Matt's a good go-to!

Deacon/church officer

Richard lives with his wife Hannah and their three children in the Netherton area of Wakefield and is also one of our deacons. When he's not knee deep in wires during Sunday morning set-up, working with our other deacons to keep things running smoothly or catching a break with some cake, he's managing a furniture store in a nearby town.
